Biden touts semiconductor plant in battleground state of Ohio

President Joe Biden flew to Ohio on Friday, where he hailed the benefits of the bipartisan Chips and Science Act, which aims to enhance domestic chipmaking and scientific research in order to reestablish America as the world's manufacturing leader.

INTEL has announced plans to invest $20 billion in the central Ohio area to develop factories on 1,000 acres in Licking County, which authorities estimate will create 20,000 employment, including 7,000 union jobs and 3,000 paying an average of $135,000 per year.

Though not openly political, the president's visit helped to emphasise the influence of his Democratic agenda in a perennial swing state with one of the most difficult Senate races that might determine whether Democrats retain control of the chamber.
