Former Bravers pitcher turned police officer, Anthony Varvaro kill in car crash enroute to 9/11 memorial ceremony.

The crash happened Sunday morning in New Jersey as confirmed by the police officials and his former teams.

Anthony Varvaro, a former Major League Baseball pitcher retired in 2016 to become a police officer.

Messages seeking details about the crash were left with New Jersey state police.

Prior to his departure from baseball, Varvaro had played for the Atlanta Braves, Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox (2010-2015).

Varvaro, studied criminal justice at St. John's University, had inquired about police jobs at the Port Authority while pitching in the majors.
