A military contractor known as "Fat Leonard" is on the run after ripping off his GPS tracking ankle bracelet and escaped house arrest in San Diego.
Leonard Glenn Francis unplugged his tracker on Sunday, necessitating a welfare check, according to Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Omar Castillo.
Officers arrived at Francis' home to find it empty, sparking a high-profile search, according to Castillo.
Several U-Haul trucks had been in and out of the residence all week, according to neighbors.
Francis was caught in 2013 and pled guilty in 2015 to bribing Navy officials with $500,000 in cash.
The former military contractor has been detained since at least 2018 and was scheduled to be punished later this month.
