Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid admitted to driving while intoxicated during a court hearing on Monday.
As part of a plea agreement, Reid faces a maximum penalty of four years in jail.
His pickup truck collided with two stationary cars on an interstate entry ramp, badly injuring a 5-year-old girl.
Ariel Young, a 5-year-old child at the time of the collision, sustained a traumatic brain injury.
Felicia Miller, Ariel's mother, informed the judge that she and her family are against the plea agreement.
“I made a huge mistake. I apologize to the family. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.” Reid said.
The punishment for Britt Reid will now take place on October 28.
