Frances Tiafoe's  loses to Carlos Alcaraz in US Open

Frances Tiafoe was one set away from creating history by reaching the final of the 2022 US Open. Unfortunately, his opponent on the night, Carlos Alcaraz, refused to give way, defeating the American in a thrilling five-setter to advance.

Although Tiafoe won the first set against Alcaraz in their semifinal match, Alcaraz easily won the second and third sets. When it appeared like the World No. 26 was ready to retire early, he came back into form to win the fourth set in a tiebreaker, saving one match point along the way.

Tiafoe's reign at Flushing Meadows came to an end as Alcaraz, a 19-year-old sensation from Spain, beat him 6-7 (6) 6-3 6-1 6-7 (5) 6-3 for ashes on the named court.

Tiafoe's failure means that American men had failed to win a Grand Slam singles championship every year since Andy Roddick won at Flushing Meadows in 2003. Alcaraz is the first adolescent to reach the US Open men's singles final since the Open era started in 1968, together with Pete Sampras, and will play in his first Grand Slam final.
