New Trial Asked by Prosecutors for Adnan Syed Case

Baltimore's prosecutors requested a new trial for Adnan Syed in a motion they submitted on Wednesday.

Adnan Syed was found guilty of killing Hae Min Lee in 1999; the case was covered in the popular podcast " Serial."

In February 2000, Syed was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, kidnapping, and false imprisonment. He is currently serving a life sentence.

Evidence "about the potential involvement of two alternative suspects other than Syed" was found during the re-investigation, the statement added.

When she vanished in January 1999, Adnan and Lee were seniors at Baltimore County's Woodlawn High School.

Three weeks later, Lee's mutilated body was found in a city forest.
