Twitter data center knocked offline

Twitter lost one of its important data centres due to the extreme heat in California, and a company official warned in an internal document obtained by CNN that another outage somewhere may cause the site to go dark for some of its users.

Like other significant social media sites, Twitter (TWTR) is dependent on data centres, which are essentially enormous warehouses filled with computers, including servers and storage devices. Controlling the temperature in such areas is crucial to preventing computer overheating and failure.

Twitter is in a "non-redundant condition" as a result of the Sacramento outage, according to Fernandez's Friday message.

In a statement about the Sacramento outage, a Twitter spokesperson told CNN, "There have been no disruptions impacting the ability for people to access and use Twitter at this time. Our teams remain equipped with the tools and resources they need to ship updates and will continue working to provide a seamless Twitter experience."
