Venezuela Arrests 'Fat Leonard' in U.S. Navy Bribery Case

Fat Leonard, a Malaysian defence contractor who masterminded one of the biggest bribery scandals in US military history, was arrested in Venezuela.

Fat Leonard fled the US before his sentencing.

Early in September in California, Leonard Francis disconnected his GPS monitor and escaped from home arrest.

He was detained early on Tuesday at the Caracas airport as he prepared to catch a flight for another nation.

In 2015, Francis admitted to proposing almost $500,000 in bribes to Navy personnel in order to direct business to his shipyards.

To bribe navy officers, he also offered prostitution services, five-star hotels, cigars, and gourmet dinners.
