Warburg eyes 30% stake in Vistaar Finance

Warburg Pincus LLC, located in New York, is in discussions to invest nearly $150 million in Indian small-business lender Vistaar Finance, according to two persons familiar with the situation, marking the firm's latest gamble in a rising lending industry.

According to the two sources, Warburg is in talks with Vistaar about acquiring a 30% interest in the shadow lender. According to one of the sources, the deal is nearing completion and will value Vistaar at over $450 million.

According to credit rating service ICRA, Vistaar's net profit for the fiscal year ending March 2022 was $9.3 million, up 14.5% from the previous year. During that time, its total revenue was $54 million.

Warburg has spent more than $5 billion in India during the last two decades. Its recent investments have included earphone manufacturer boAt, cosmetics and makeup business Good Glamm Group, and ride-hailing service Ola. Avanse Financial Services and Fusion Microfinance are two of Warburg's NBFC investments in India.
